John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
Located on Columbia Point on Boston’s idyllic waterfront, this inspiring museum is a representation of the remarkable life of the 35th president of the United States. Although his life was tragically cut short in November of 1963 following his assassination in Dallas, JFK’s vision and contribution to society are still alive at his presidential library. A variety of exhibits and artifacts provide a fascinating glance into JFK’s life and purpose.
Visitors can see JFK’s Oval Office chair, watch riveting footage chronicling his time as leader of the country, and view an impressive collection of gifts from heads of state during his time as president. The museum also devotes space to exploring the lives of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis as well as JFK’s brother, Robert F. Kennedy.
College Campus Tours
It is never to early to inspire young minds to reach for the stars. Because of its high concentration of many prominent colleges and universities, Boston is an ideal place to start introducing children to the value of a higher education. Visitors can choose to tour a number of campus locations, including Harvard, Boston University, Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston College, and more.
Kids will especially love picking out a souvenir to take home in the school bookstore while adults will marvel at the incredible architecture of many of the campus buildings and halls.
Boston Commons
As the oldest park in the country, this should be a must-see stop on your Boston itinerary. Together with the adjacent Public Garden, the two spaces cover 74 acres of a true urban oasis.
Regardless of the season, there is always something fun going on for kids in Boston Common. In the winter months, the famous Frog Pond is transformed into a magical ice skating rink, highlighting the spirit of the season. A myriad of historic statues and monuments dot the landscape, giving families plenty of treasures to uncover as they meander through the park.
Freedom Trail
This 2.5-mile walking trail encompasses 16 of the nation’s most historic and important sites. There is no better lesson that you can impart on your child than walking this red brick road with them and helping to recreate the people and events that shaped the country’s history.
Famous stops along the way include Old North Church, Faneuil Hall, the Bunker Hill Monument, and U.S.S. Constitution. The trail is free, as are most of the attractions along its path. It will be nearly impossible to hit all of the stops in detail, so it is recommended to choose the places that you think might appeal to your children to explore at a greater length.
Visit Paul Revere’s Home
As part of the Freedom Trail, this destination deserves a shout-out of its own. Not only is this home a shining example of Colonial architecture, but the history within its walls is unparalleled by anything else. A nominal admission of $5 for adults and $1 for children will get you access to the restored home. The tale of Revere’s famous Midnight Ride will be sure to captivate young minds as they learn of the patriot’s warning to his comrades that the British were coming for battle.
Charles River Esplanade
If you are lucky enough to visit Boston during nice weather, consider heading to the Charles River Esplanade to let the kids burn off their energy. This venerable 3-mile, 65-acre park is ideally situated right along the Charles River, delivering convenient access to all visitors of Boston.
A zip line and spiderweb play structure will delight young children for hours. The Charlesbank spray deck is perfect for when you need to cool off cranky kids on a hot summer day. Don’t be surprised to see many residents out enjoying the trails with a bike ride or run. Don’t hesitate to join them!
Boston Children’s Museum

Boston Duck Boat Tours
Even if you don’t ride them, you will be sure to see these unique amphibious vehicles traversing the terrain and waters of Boston. With three convenient departure locations, you will be sure to find one that fits your itinerary. Guests will climb abroad the W.W.II style amphibious landing vehicle and be treated to a tour of some of Boston’s most famous sites.
